NEWS LETTER

Next Meeting

Friday, JANUARY 11, 2008 (6:00pm)

It’s been almost a year since the last communication and the club membership is dwindling. If we are to continue to exist as a club we will need people to join. We are in dire need of Officers, Board members, Secretary and President.  The most pressing need is getting someone to help organize the meeting times and get the newsletters out.  We were blessed with a great start to the sledding season and it would be a shame if the club missed the opportunity to improve the trails in Gorham.

Enclosed is a Membership Application form.  Please note that the fees have increased to $27.00 for Family and $35.00 for Business memberships.  The increase is due to the fact that the MSA is retaining an additional $2.00 per application starting this year.  If you or someone you know is interested in joining, please complete the form and mail with payment to Gorham Sno Goers, P.O. Box 213, Gorham, ME 04038.  Any support is appreciated.

The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, January 11, 2008, at 6:00pm at the Club house on Mighty Street.  Directions are on the clubs web site www.GorhamSnogoers.org .

Meeting Topics will include the following;

The Future of The CLUB

1.      If we don’t get organized and get more members, the Club will be dissolved or merged into another club.  This will result in the loss of the annual trail grant money the Club receives to improve the trail system.

Administrative Duties:

1.      Report from the Treasurer

2.      Report from the Trail master (some trail issues will be covered in this letter below)

3.      Report on membership

4.      The election of a:

a.       President – (?)

b.      Secretary – (?)

c.       Treasurer – Dennis Byrd

d.      Trail Master – Jim Gregoire

e.       At least 4 other officers – (?)

f.        At least 6 Board members – (?)

If anyone has held any of the above positions in previous years and want to continue, please let us know.

Trail Matters:

1.      The Bridge by the Little Falls Rec Center is out and will need to be replaced. We need to schedule a day to fix it and will need volunteers.

2.      The Bridge by the sliding hill (Mighty street) has been replaced with a very nice steel bridge which will now allow the track trucks to groom all the way to Buxton. I would like to make a special thank you to Jim Gregoire who organized and welded the entire structure and spent 3 weekends donating his time to get the job done. I would also like to thank, Ralph Perry who donated his time and use of equipment, Aaron Brown, Wade Brown, Mike Hackett, Becky Byrd, Randy Davis and Bill Preis (hopefully I didn’t forget anyone, if I did I apologize).

3.      The groomers have been out and we have noticed that a lot of sleds are not staying on the marked trails.  Gorham is loosing enough trails to development, we can not afford to loose anymore, Stay On Marked Trails Please!

Special Notes:

* IF YOU KNOW ANYONE THAT WOULD LIKE TO JOIN PLEASE PASS ON THIS NEWSLETTER AND HAVE THEM COME TO THE MEETING

* There will be no money reimbursed to anyone unless their membership is current and they have their trail MAINTENANCE AND/or grooming logs up to date (I will have blank forms at the meeting)

Sincerely:

Dennis Byrd,

Treasurer
